WELCOME TO RISE AND RESIST!
WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE HERE
Rise And Resist (RAR) began as a small group of individuals who were astounded by the results of the 2016 presidential election and were searching for ways to effect positive change. Since then, the group has developed into an agile community dedicated to nonviolent direct action. We are committed to opposing, disrupting, and defeating any government act that threatens democracy, equality, and our civil liberties. We collaborate on a wide variety of social justice issues.
RAR is composed of both seasoned activists and people who are new to activism. Everyone’s input is important and valued, and we do our best to make sure that new members’ voices are heard. You’re encouraged to contribute to the conversation, propose your own actions, learn skills, and join one of our committees. In our large General Group Tuesday night meetings, we discuss and vote on issues and actions we need to approve as an organization. Additionally, we share report backs on recent actions, announce upcoming actions, and hear requests for non-RAR actions.
We meet every Tuesday night in our General Group from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on ZOOM. Once a month, we meet at the LGBTQ Center at 208 West 13th Street in Manhattan. For any changes to the schedule (e.g. cancellation due to inclement weather, venue change), visit the RAR Facebook page: Facebook.com/RiseandResistNYC.
Below you will find links to RAR’s Administrative Groups and Action Groups.
Administrative Groups form the administrative structure of RAR and keep the organization going. They handle internal matters for RAR operations (meeting facilitation, media, etc.) Administrative Groups meet regularly and provide the organization with updates at the general Tuesday night meeting.
Action Groups form to meet challenges as issues arise. They plan and produce street actions and other activities , on a particular issue. Action Groups bring their direct-action plans—including pickets, marches, street theater, rallies, and civil disobedience—to Tuesday night meetings for discussion and approval.
For more information about any group, please contact that group. For information about creating a new Action Group, please contact the Actions Committee.
Administrative and Action Groups are always open to new members. If you’re interested in joining in, please email the relevant contact person.

TUESDAY NIGHT, GENERAL MEETING GUIDELINES
How to Request Rise And Resist Support for a New Action
RAR can provide one of two levels of support to an action
Sponsorship is an action initiated by a group of RAR members to be planned and conducted either by RAR alone, or by those members in partnership with another organization. Sponsorship entitles the action to seek the full range of RAR resources, including communications, marshals, props, and finances.
Endorsement occurs when RAR allows an outside group that is planning an action to list RAR among the organizations endorsing the action. RAR commits to publicizing the action, but we do not commit resources to the action.
Suggestions for Presenting a Report-Back
Please organize your report back before presenting it to the room. We advise that only one or two people give the report back (keeping our step up/step back suggestions in mind when deciding whom among the organizers should report). Report backs should be succinct and include
Anything important or unusual that happened
Anything members learned from it, for future actions
Anything that could have been improved upon
Suggestions for Proposing an Action
Be prepared to lead it
Have a clear objective
Have a clear target
Have a clear time and place
Think about timelines and urgency
Think about campaigns and strategy
Provide contact info for the minutes
